Blooming Life
City Workshop in The Netherlands - Flower shop
age 5 ~ 8 years old

Flower plays an impact role in Dutch’s daily life. Four children from the neighbourhood were invited to re-discover the beauty of flower with their fresh minds.

Flower’s fascinating color diversities and sensitive texture caught children’s eyes. They took off the flower one by one carefully, looked them through the light, place them on a light box. A colorful blooming rainbow, just like children’s smile, spread in the shop.

After the first section, children were ready to bring their fantasy further. A playful question was proposed; ‘If the elephant marries with sunflower, how will their baby look like?’ Every children choose partly cut-off fascinating animal drawings. They used their imagination to extend, connect and create the missing part of animal with flower. As a result, fantastic animals, fantastic flowers, fantastic fantasia!

In the shop, all kinds of curious objects were presented. From the sea, mountain, desert and even some objects from old printing factory. Amazing materials collection expended children’s curiosity. They used free imagination to make a new landscape with the collection.

Ideas and knowledges sometimes could be limitation of expression. With transfer, fusion and extension, children reconsidered about what flower is. The stereotype of material has been challenged and freed by children.
